DAVENPORT, Ia. (July 4, 2014) – It was Red, White, and Vroom, Friday at the Davenport Speedway. The racetrack played host to the Street Stock Fourth of July Clash, with a $2,000-to-win top prize.

When the final checkered flag flew, there was a familiar face in victory lane. Davenport’s Jeremy Marquette won the 50-lap Street Stock main, despite being involved in a mid-race incident that sent him to the rear. Marquette also won the Street Stock Clash in 2012.

Chad Coyne led the field to the green and would lead lap one, before yielding to Rob Nylin. Nylin led nine laps before swapping the lead with Kevin Dickey. Dickey led laps thirteen through nineteen.

A lap twenty restart saw Donnie Louck take the lead. Louck led until the next caution on lap 35, when his steering broke and his race was over.

Marquette ran away from the field on the restart and led the rest of the way to the checkers. Andy Nezworski battled back from the lap 35 caution to finish second. Jarrett Franzen took third, just ahead of Cord Williams and Josh Neal.

Justin Kay chalked up win number four in the Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model action. Kay needed twenty-three laps to run down Mike Murphy Jr. and take the lead. Murphy finished second, with Andy Nezworski a distant third. Ray Guss Jr. and Ben Nading rounded out the top five.

Another large field of Milan Heating and Air IMCA Modifieds were on hand Friday, with another surprise winner. Rich Smith, in just his second start at Davenport this season, led all twenty laps en route to the victory. Tony VonDresky scored a second place finish with Bruce Hanford finishing third. Doug Crampton and Mitch Morris were fourth and fifth respectively.

Tyler Soppe collected his second Hawkeye Auto IMCA SportMod win of the season. Tyler grabbed the lead after a lap five restart and never looked back. Bryce Garnhart got close to Soppe, but couldn’t make a pass for the lead and had to settle for second. Dustin Crear had a solid run in third and was followed to the checkers by Eric Pollard and Jarrett Franzen.

Jake Benischek made it back-to-back family wins in the Roto-Rooter 4-Stock feature. His brother Luke had won last week. Jake took the lead from Zach Dahl on lap three and led the rest of the way. Brandon Dahl raced his way to a close second place finish, with his brother Zach taking third. Fourth was Andy Loy, with Aaron Hitt fifth.

The point chase continues next Friday, July 11th  at the Davenport Speedway. Exciting racing action will be held in all five weekly classes. The special added attraction for the evening will be Powder Puff races.
