WINSTON, MO (September 21, 2013) – Grand Nationals got the action underway at I-35 Speedway as young Houston “The Moose” Johnson #97 used a front row outside starting spot to race his way to victory.  Houston was challenged early by older brother and heat race winner “Awesome” Austin Johnson #98, who would develop mechanical problems and slip to the fourth finishing spot.  “The Moose” would lead every lap and hold off the late charge of “The Alien” Don Marrs #9, who would place a close second.  “Biggin” Marty Powell #9p would rally late to finish the night in a solid third place.

Midwest Lightning Sprints would crown a new point champion on this special night of racing action.  Bobby Layne #01 would lead every lap on his way to winning the nights feature.  Heat race winner Luke McGee #13 would be forced to settle for second place.  The newly crowned 2013 Midwest Lightning Sprints Points Champion Tony Layne #71 would race his way to finish third, as Ken Brown #10 would place fourth and Greg Black #53 fifth.

As always the IMCA Stock Car class would put on the feature of the night, as the two heat race winners would battle bumper to bumper the entire race with “The Hulk” Jake Cameron #86c edging Greg Keuhn #6x by a mere car length at the line to take the feature victory.  Keuhn would finish a strong second, with point leader Dean Wray #77 third.  Brad Whitney #x9 and Gene Stigall #20 would race hard with Whitney finishing fourth and Stigall settling for fifth.

With cautions plaguing the early goings of the IMCA Sport Mod feature several cars would find the pits and not return to racing action.  When the smoke had cleared a familiar face found victory lane for the third time this 2013 racing season.  “Old Highside” Jeremy Pittsenbarger #32p would pick up the feature victory while holding off the hard charge of second place finisher Mitch Booher #22b.  Josh Barnes #52j starting from the outside of the front row would race Mathew Webb #51x to finish third, holding Webb to fourth.  Caleb Dennis #11 would recover from an early race encounter to round out the top five.  Heat Race winners included Josh Barnes #52J, Josh Steele #94J, and Randy Ainsworth #57.

Newcomer to the IMCA Hobby Stock class Scott Treadwell #9t9 would taste victory for the very first time.  Treadwell would win a heat race making the statement that he was a contender on this night.  Lee Farmer #17f would take the lead with three laps to go only to have lap traffic come into play allowing Treadwell to capitalize with the win moving Farmer to second.  Point leader and other heat race winner Mich Ross #34 would storm to the front from a third row inside starting spot to place third.  Tyson Overton #42t would finish fourth as he and Josh Adkins #15 would battle to the line, with Adkins fifth.

IMCA Modifieds saw Jim Peeler #92p jump out to an early lead from an outside front row starting position.  Peeler would lead most of the race until Bud Wilson #75 would use turns three and four to perfection on his way to pick up the feature win.  Wilson was challenged by Buz Kaster #54, who would run out of laps and finish second.  Peeler would finish a strong third, as John Hanson #2h would place fourth.  Johnny McGinnis #10 would again show his consistent ways by finishing solid fifth.  Heat race winners were Shawn Lee #4d and Bud Wilson #75.

I-35 Speedway would like to thank all of our loyal fans for coming out to enjoy this great night of racing action.  Intermission witnessed our first ever “Worn out tire race” with ten kids racing down the front straight while pushing an old tire.  Fun was had by all with trophies going to all those who participated.  We would like to invite everyone back next week for Championship Night at the Races.  We will be crowning track champions in all divisions with special recognition by the flag stand.  So come one and all next Saturday Night for more “Dirt Trackin at its Best”.
