WINSTON, MO (August 31, 2013) – Bud Wilson driving car #75 for Johnson Racing was back in true form winning the Grand National feature event.  Wilson lead every lap on his way to claiming the nights top spot, holding off the hard charging fifteen year old Austin Johnson #98 who would place second.  Third place would go to younger Houston Johnson #97 as Marty Powell #9p would experience mechanical issues to place fourth.  Heat race winner Don Marrs #9 would also experience mechanical problems to finish the night in fifth.

Show-Me Vintage Racers returned to I-35 Speedway eight strong to put on a great feature event.  “Big” Mike McDowell #24 would use a front row starting position to his advantage, leading every lap in route to pick up his first ever feature win.  Damon Clevenger #6 would challenge McDowell every lap of the way only to have to settle for second place.  Brian “Bump” Strong #711, fresh off a heat race win, would finish third; with Dave Baldwin #4 finishing fourth.  Rounding out the top five for the evening’s event was Darren Shore #9x.  Other heat race winner for the Show-Me Vintage Racers was Jim Snedeger #155.

IMCA Stock Cars witnessed “Big” Jeff Dixon #88 get the horn and bring home the trophy.  Dixon would hold off the Ford horsepower of Jake Cameron #86c, who would place second.  Newcomer to the track Jim Powell Jr. #20p would battle his way through the pack from a fourth row outside starting spot to claim third.  Bruce Fair #44f would race point leader Dean Wray #77 door handle to door handle almost the entire race to place fourth, leaving Wray fifth.  Heat race winners were Gene Stigall #20 and Jeff Dixon.

The youth movement in the IMCA Sport Mod class was alive and well at I-35 Speedway.  First time winner Anthony Asher #37 would drive a near flawless race on his way to McCarthy Auto-Group victory lane.  Asher would hold off the hard charge of Mitch Booher #22b, who would repeat with a solid second place finish.  Wes Bestgen #15b continues to show consistency finishing third and Jason Billups #33j would finish fourth.  Josh Steele #94j would lead early only to fade late to place fifth.  Heat race winners included Josh Barnes #52j and Tony Manley #3x.

The point battle continues to grow tighter in the IMCA Hobby Stocks as Mich Ross #34 would make it three wins in row.  Ross would take the lead early and hold off point leader Kenny Champ #3.  Going into the nights events only two points would separate Champ and Ross, when the smoke had settled only one point would separate the two drivers.  Champ after winning the heat race would place second, as Billie Hoover #21h would power his way to third.  Veteran driver David Truskett #83 would finish fourth, with Jeff Goepferich #5j would round out the top five.

IMCA Modifieds would go Green to White to Checkers, proving again the quality drivers that invade I-35 Speedway each and every Saturday night.  John Hanson #2h would lead every lap until a lapped car would slide up in turn four, this would allow Darren Shaw #11 to make a gallant move to the inside and beat Hanson to the line.  Shaw made the right move at the right time to pick up the feature win, moving Hanson to place second.  Jim Cameron, driving the Starmer prepared #96c, would place a solid third; as Shane Lawson #17$ would finish an impressive fourth.  “Old Guys Rule” Buz Kaster #54 would drive home fifth completing a night of great racing action.  Heat race winners included Jim Cameron #96c and Shane Lawson #17$.

I-35 Speedway would like to thank all of our loyal fans for braving the heat and joining us for a night of great family entertainment.  Hope everyone enjoyed the water balloon dodge-ball and all the giveaways during Intermission.  We invite everyone back next week as Intermission entertainment (back by popular demand) will feature the always exciting Hula-Hoops.  Next Saturday night 9/07/2013 will be “Open Night” as no points will be awarded as other sanctioning rules will be allowed.  So get those hips loose, Hula-Hoops ready, and prepare for more family fun and “Dirt Trackin at its Best”.
