NEW OWNERSHIP TAKES OVER MOBERLY’S 24 RACEWAY

by Ron Lueck

MOBERLY, MO (September 27) – Randolph County Raceway, LLC is the name of the new organization that has agreed to take the reigns from 24 Raceway, LLC and is the new owner of the half-mile dirt racetrack that’s been known as 24 Raceway for the past ten years.  As of Thursday September 27th, the deed and keys have been transferred and the plans for improvements are just starting to come together.  More importantly, items that racers and fans will be curious about, such as the classes to race there, the particular race night(s), and what the schedule is to look like will all be fine-tuned over the next few months.  There are plans for rehabbing the place with all new board seating and some paint to give the facility a shiney new appearance.  The biggest undertaking planned will be the task of removing the asphalt below what remains of the dirt surface, and then regrading and packing of the entire track surface before wintrer sets in.  There are more questions to be asked, for sure, and the answers will come in due time.  Then there’s the need for establishing a 2013 schedule coming on fast, so these folks will be busy right away.

24 Raceway has had the longest ownership by 24 Raceway, LLC since it’s 1988 & ’89 construction.  After what amounted to an employee takeover in August 2003, the track has had some variations in the membership of the LLC, but has remained in continuous operation as 24 Raceway since that time and thru 2011, even with being leased out for 2011.  A decision was made by the ownership not to lease or re-open in 2012, and negotiations began for a sale in June.  It is the hope for the racetrack to be a successful racing venture once more with these new owners, and that is going to take the support of the racing community in the mid-state area.

A special “Thanks” goes out to all the fans who came to watch over the past decades, all the race teams that came out to participate, and especially “thanks” to all of the sponsors throughout these past seasons, for their signage, sponsorship, and door prize donations.  The fans, drivers and sponsors all need to continue to join in helping Stock Car racing at Moberly remain the family-friendly sport that it has been.  And please, just keep on coming to the races at Moberly.
