INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (Aug. 3) – Jon Passick was the third and final leader in a thrilling IMCA Late Model feature Saturday night at Independence Motor Speedway.

Passick, Rick Dralle and Luke Pestka all shared time at the front over the final four laps before Passick drove to his first win of the year on Veridian Credit Union Night at the Races.

Dralle assumed the early lead before Pestka worked past the leader on lap two. Pestka held the point with Dralle in close pursuit as the leaders ran nose-to-tail and door-to-door before Dralle regained control just past the midway point of the 25-lapper.

Pestka chased Dralle through lapped traffic and was able to reel in the leader with a few laps to go until the race’s only caution slowed action with 21 laps scored complete.

On the restart, Pestka ran the low side and Passick the top groove as they challenged Dralle for the lead. Running three-wide into turn three, Pestka assumed command to lead lap 22 before Dralle fought back to take control as the flying green waved.

Passick pursued on the low groove and took control for the first time as the white flag waved. He led the final lap to score the exciting victory ahead of Pestka and a hard-charging Greg Kastli.

Troy Cordes scored his third win of the year in the Performance Bodies IMCA Modified division. Cordes took the lead following a lap two caution to drive to victory ahead of a charging Mark Schulte. Points leader Tyler Droste raced from a sixth row start to finish third.

Jason Hocken took the lead from Kevin Rose on the fourth lap to drive to his first win of the season in the IMCA Sunoco Stock Car division. Hocken led the remainder of the caution-free 18-lapper to take the victory ahead of Tim Helle and points leader Sean Johnson.

When leader Kevin Hurst developed a push in turns one and two on the seventh lap, Kip Siems took advantage to drive to his third win of the season in the Karl Chevrolet IMCA Northern SportMod division. Siems took the checkers ahead of Jim Buhlman and Hurst in the 15-lapper.

Points leader Merv Chandler took the lead early in the 12-lap Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact feature, then held off late pressure from Adam Gates to score his second win of the year. Mitch Balik ran third.

Chris Luloff earned his seventh win of the year in the IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stock division. Luloff made his way by Matt Lundry with two laps to go to score the win ahead of points leader Benji Irvine and Jamie Whitaker.

Coming up Monday, August 5, will be the biggest event in track history featuring the World of Outlaws Late Model Series and Karl Performance Hawkeye Dirt Tour presented by XSAN. Gates open at 4 p.m., with hot laps at 6:45 and racing to follow. Details are available at www.independencemotorspeedway.com.
