GREENWOOD, NE (April 6, 2013) – Terry Phillips started on the pole and led all thirty-five laps to score the win in Lucas Oil MLRA competition at I-80 Speedway. “We tried some new stuff, it worked pretty good,” commented Phillips. “We got a little closer. I’m never satisfied I guess. The car was pretty good and the motor ran real good. It kind of went our way tonight.”

The race was in question for a period of time however, as Chad Simpson closed in on the two-time series champion. Phillips never bobbled and pulled away from him on the final restart, with thirteen laps to go. “I just got to driving to hard,” said Phillips of Simpson’s pursuit. “I finally settled down and got in a rhythm, and I think I got a way just a little bit. He (Simpson) is a good racer. That’s good competition to race against, so I was on my toes.”

The runner up spot went to Simpson, with his brother Chris, finishing third. This weekend marked the first two races of the season for Simpson and the Brinkman Motorsports team.

It was somewhat of an empty feeling for Chris Simpson following the race as an untimely miscue left him wondering what if. Simpson’s team left a block in the car, which they inserted while it was in the pits on jack stands. He told the I-80 Speedway faithful that he was surprised to run as well as he did. Overall it was a solid weekend for him as he continues to fine tune his new MB Customs Race Car.

There was a feverish tilt for fourth through seventh place in the waning stages of the race. Brad Looney, John Anderson, Will Vaught and Jesse Stovall duked it out and left fans talking about their performance on their way out of the track.

Chad Simpson, Brad Looney, Terry Phillips and Chris Simpson all scored heat race wins. Next weekend the tour rolls into Lucas Oil Speedway for the Annual “Spring Thunder.” John Anderson is the defending race winner.
