BURLINGTON, IA  (July 28, 2012) – A much needed rain threatened to stop the racing action at 34 Raceway Saturday night, but only light showers hit the track off and on allowing the racing action to continue.

Brandon Rothzen, Raritan, Il. returned to the winner’s circle for the third time this year in the modified feature as did Jim Lynch, Donnellson, winning the stock car feature for his third win this year. Jake Wenig raced to  his fourth hobby stock feature win this year on 101.7 The Bull Night at the races.

3/8 mile with stock car racer Derek St. Clair.

Harold Pohren, New London, picked up his first ever 305 Sprint feature win Saturday night topping the fourteen car field.  Bryan Wanner in search of his first sprint win took the early lead and would pull away from the field. But the win wouldn’t come for the young driver from Agency when he would spin in turn four as did Ditsworth, both then going to the rear of the field and moving Pohren in to the number one spot. Pohren battled to hold off Andy Huston and then Justin Parrish for the final laps. Parrish would flip to bring out the red flag on the final lap as  Pohren took the checkered flag.  Point leader Donnie Steward would finish  fifth.

Brandon Rothzen, Raritan, Il. took the lead from Mike Weikert on lap five the twenty lap Coors Silver Bullet IMCA Modified feature.

Rothzen would pull away from the field and went on to get his third win this year. Jeff Waterman would finish second outdistancing Josh Foster who finish third.  Foster holds a narrow seven point lead over Scott Hogan with the point season winding down.

Fourteen Weikert Iron and Metal Sport Mods took to the track with Sean Wyett, Danville and Derek Coleman, New London, on the front row.

Wyett would take the lead at the drop of the green and never looked back to get his first win this season. Joe Bliven would follow to finish second on the smooth racing surface.  Tony Dunker, Quincy, Il leads the sport mod point race with 228 points followed by Bliven with 213. The Sport Mods will return to 34 on Aug. 11.

The Mike’s Auto Parts IMCA Stock Cars continue to provide some thrilling racing with  Jim Lynch, Donnellson, picking up his third win this year at 34 Raceway. Lynch took the lead on lap three from his front row start and would hold that position for the next seventeen laps for the win after holding off John Oliver, Jr. and Matt Greiner in the bumper to bumper action.  Oliver holds a narrow 2 point lead over Greiner with the point season winding down for 2012.

Coming off his first hobby stock win last week, Dugan Thye, would take the lead in the Pepsi Hobby Stock feature on the first lap but would give it up to Dan Wenig two laps later. Wenig would lead the field for the next six laps only to have son Jake get the lead and the eventual win. Dane Fenton would follow to finish second. In hobby stock point race action Matt Gavin, Kirkwood, Il. leads the race with 464 points followed by Fenton with 457.

John Whalen, Ainsworth, would finally get that eluded 34 Raceway 4 Cylinder win Saturday night. Leaders of the twelve lap feature included Jerrod Nichols, Billy Stanford and Daytona Fenton. But it was Whalen who held the lead as the checkered flag dropped taking the lead with two laps to go. The win extends Whalen’s point race lead to 453 followed by Stanford with 400.
