Donnellson, IA (Friday, June 12, 2015) – Who would have thought that after two days of heavy rains, the Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, Iowa would be able to race on Friday night. The crew arrived early to find the track raceable, but the pits needed some work in order to get the Armstrong Tractor, Miller Lite, and 101.7 The Bull Night put into the books. After several hours of packing the pits the action was set to go, which featured the debut of the Lucas Oil MLRA Late Models for the 2015 season.

The first feature to take to the track was the 15 lap Armstrong Tractor IMCA Sport Compacts, with William Michel and Kimberly Abbott drawing the front row for the event. But when Michel elected to start in the rear, this would move Darin Weisinger Jr. to the pole next to Abbott. But it was fifth place starter Mike Reu who quickly moved to the front to grab the lead on lap 1 over Abbott and Brandon Reu, who started 8th. Abbott would slip under Mike Reu coming off turn 2 to take the top spot away on lap 2. At the same time Josh Barnes, who started 10th, moved in to challenge for the lead. On lap 5 Barnes would us the same move as Abbott, the bottom off turn 2, to grab the lead away. Barnes then went on to lead the final 10 laps of a caution free race to pick up his third win of the season at the track. Abbott was 2nd, Brandon Reu was 3rd, Darin Smith was 4th, with Mike Reu holding on for 5th.

Up next was the 14 lap Coors Light IMCA Hobby Stock feature, with Kevin Koontz and Daniel Wauters leading the field to the drop of the green flag. Koontz would take advantage of his front row starting spot to jump out into the lead on lap 1 over Wauters and Leah Wroten, who started 5th. Coming off turn 4 to complete lap 2 the top three cars of Brandon Symmonds, Wroten, and Koontz were three wide, with Symmonds scored as the leader of lap 2. Wroten, who was working the top of the track, would edge out Symmonds at the line to lead lap 3. Wroten and Symmonds then battled side-by-side for the top spot on laps 6 and 7, with Wroten holding off Symmonds at the line each lap. Despite several more challenges from Symmonds over the final 11 laps of the caution free race, Wroten would hold on to claim her first feature win at the track. Symmonds settled for 2nd, Brandon Potts was 3rd, Koontz was 4th, with Wauters rounding out the top 5.

Dan Keltner and Logan Anderson drew the front row for the 20 lap Shottenkirk of Ft. Madison IMCA SportMod feature, with Keltner grabbing the lead on lap 1 over Anderson and Joey Gower. Keltner then worked to hold off Gower for the top spot over the next 6 laps, when the first caution of the race appeared. Phillip Cossel would slow to a stop down the front stretch to bring out the yellow. On the restart Gower slipped under Keltner coming off turn 4 to grab the top spot away on lap 7. One lap later, lap 8, Brett Lowry, who was running 7th, spun in turn 2 to bring out the caution. Gower would jump back out front on the restart, with Jim Gillenwater and Dustin Crear both over taking Keltner for the second and third spots. Just as Gower was starting to pull away, another caution waved on lap 17. This time Austen Becerra slowed with a broken left front to bring out the caution. On the restart Anderson and Crear got together in turn 2 while battling for 3rd, which caused Leroy Groenendyk to spin in turn 2 and Anderson to slowed to a stop down the backstretch to bring the yellow light back on. The following restart saw Gower jump back out front, with Gillenwater and Brandon Lennox, who started 14th, close behind. Just after lap 18 was scored complete, Adam Birck, who started 15th and was running 4th, spun in turn 4 and collected Keltner, Kyle Hill, Travis Peterson, Casey Lancaster, and Nathan Bringer to bring out the caution. Gower once again grabbed the lead on the restart and then held off Gillenwater to become the first repeat winner of the season at the track. Gillenwater settled for 2nd, Tanner Klingele edged out Lennox at the line to grab 3rd, Lennox was 4th, with Brandon Dale, who started 13th, recovering from his left front flat under the lap 17 caution to come back up to finish in 5th.

Up next was the 20 lap Donnellson Tire and Service IMCA Stock Car feature, with Todd Reitzler and Jeremy Pundt drawing the front row. But just as the green flag waved the caution light would come on, as Jeff Mueller spun in turn 2 and collected John Oliver Jr. and Austin Cassat to bring out the yellow. The following restart saw Reitzler move out front to lead lap 1 over Pundt and Jake Wenig. Another caution on lap 8 slowed the action up front, as Sam McClure spun in turn 4 and collected Cassat, Mueller and Corey Strothman to bring out the yellow. On the restart Reitzler jumped back out front, with Nathan Wood over taking Pundt for second. Wood then tried to work under Reitzler over the next 9 laps, when another caution slowed the action on lap 12. This time Andrew Hustead spun in turn 4 to bring out the yellow. Once again Reitzler moved out front on the restart, with Wood having to work to hold off Abe Huls, who started 10th, for the runner up spot. The action up front was slowed for the final time on lap 15, when Wenig spun in turn 4 to bring out the yellow. Reitzler again grabbed the lead on the restart, with Pundt and Huls over taking Wood for the second and third spots. Coming to the white flag Reitzler, who was running the bottom, was working to hold off Pundt, who was up top, while Wood, who was working the bottom, and Huls, who was up top, were battling side-by-side for third. Coming out of turn 4 for the checkered flag Pundt would bobble, which allowed Reitzler to hold on to claim his first win of the season at the track. Huls and Wood both slipped by Pundt to finish 2nd and 3rd, Mueller, who spun on the start also slipped past Pundt to finish in 4th, with Pundt coming home in 5th.

The final feature to take to the track was the 20 lap Budweiser IMCA Modifieds, with Lonnie Heap and Steve Stewart drawing the front row. But when Heap was a scratch, this would move Tyler Groenendyk to the pole for the start. Groenendyk would take advantage of the move to grab the lead on lap 1 over David Brown and Scott Hogan, who started 7th. The action was slowed on lap 2, when Paul Nelson spun in turn 4 to bring out the yellow. On the restart Groenendyk moved back out front, with Hogan over taking David Brown for the runner up spot. Groenendyk and Hogan then started to pull away from the rest of the field, until the second and final caution appeared on lap 11. This time Brandon Banks, who started 9th and was running 4th, spun in turn 2 to bring out the yellow. Once again Groenendyk jumped out front on the restart, with Hogan and David Brown following. Groenendyk would lead the final 9 laps to claim his third win of the season at the track. Hogan settled for 2nd, Bill Roberts Jr. was 3rd, Kyle Brown started 12th and finished 4th, with Brandon Rothzen coming from the rear to round out the top 5.
