Roberts gets first win of 2015 season

Point season winds down and championships are still up for grabs.

WEST BURLINGTON, IA  (AUGUST 8, 2015) – Mix  Night and Family Motors Night at 34 Raceway saw three racers picking up their first wins of the season at on Saturday night, August 8 while three made repeat trips to victory lane. Getting their first wins were Bill Roberts Jr., Burlington (IMCA Modifieds), Chuck Fullenkamp,  Fort Madison (4 cylinders), and Mitchell Davis, Auburn, Il. (IMRA Midgets). Returning to victory lane this season were Ben Wagoner, Emden, Il. (305 Sprints), Tommy Bowling, Danville (IMCA Stock Cars) and Austen Becerra, Carthage, Il (IMCA Sport Mods).

Coming up: 34 Raceway will have a pitstop this weekend (August 15) with no racing action  on the 3/8 mile. Racing resumes on Saturday, August 22 with the 2nd annual Sprint Invaders Nationals as the 360 sprints will take on the 3/8 mile high bank. Also competing will be the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Mods, IMCA Stock Cars and 4 Cylinders. For more information go to www.34raceway.com or www.sprintinvaders.com.

The 34 Raceway 4 Cylinders were the first feature race of the night with Chuck Fullenkamp, Fort Madison, getting his first career win. Fullenkamp took the lead from Bryerson Tharp on lap three of the fourteen car, twelve lap race and went on to hold off a charging Kimberly Abbot for the win. Abbott followed  for second with Jerrod Nichols, Ron Kibbe and Colton Keck rounded out the top five.  As the point season nears and end  Jerrod Nichols holds a narrow 3 point lead over Abbott 383 to 380. Kibble followed with 372.

The IMCA Sport Mods were up next with Austen Becerra picking up his third feature win of the season at 34. Becerra took the lead from Travis Hartman on lap ten of the fifteen lap race. A multi car crash on lap eleven that involved the second place Hartman and third place Gower would end their night moving Sean Wyett and Dakota Simmons up and challenge for the lead. But Becerra would pull away from the pack to take the win. Wyett, Simmons, Creston Williams and Tom Lathrop would round out the top five. The sport mods are in a title battle for the point championship with Joey Gower holding a ten point lead over Sean Wyett 374-364 and Austen Becerra following with 357.

Blaine Jamison took the early lead in the fifteen car, 20 lap 305 Sprint feature leading the field for the first five laps. As they ran into lap traffic Justin Newberry took advantage and would take the lead from Jamison and would lead the next six laps before Ben Wagoner would get by Newberry as the third leader of the race. Newberry kept Wagoner in his sights for the next three laps before Wagoner would pull away to win by several car lengths. Newberry would finish second followed by John Schulz who moved up from the rear of the field to finish third , Tyler Glass and Billy Brickley following to finish in the top five. Justin Newberry holds a 9 point lead over John Schulz in the points championship with just two races remain 376 to 367. Nick Guernsey follows with 348.

Another nice field of IMRA Midgets would put on a show with Mitchell Adams picking up the win. Adams took the lead from  AJ Johnson on lap five of the twenty lap race and would go on to take the win holding off challenges from Aaron Schuck late in the race as they ran into lap traffic. Schuck wold finish second followed by Ryan Jamison, Robby McQuinn and Johnson.  Aaron Shuck holds a 23 point lead over Brayden Gaylor in the IMRA Midget point race 230 – 207 with one point race remaining.

Tommy Bowling picked up his second win in three weeks in the IMCA Stock Car division. Bowling took the lead from Andrew Hustead on lap six of the twenty lap race and would pull away to take the win by several car lengths.  John Oliver, Jr. would finish second, followed by Chad Krogmeier, Hustead and Jake Wenig rounding out the top five. The IMCA Stock Cars are in a tight race for their point championship. Tommy Bowling leads the stock cars point race with 367 followed by Shane Watts 362 and John Oliver, Jr. with 359 with two point races remaining.

The final feature of the evening was the IMCA Modifieds with Bill Roberts, Jr., getting his first win this season. Roberts would take the lead from Dean McGee on lap five of the twenty lap feature with McGee and Tyler Glass giving chase. Roberts continued to run strong as a battle for second was going on behind him between McGee,   Glass, Jeff Waterman and Brandon Rothzen. As Roberts took the checkered flag by several car lengths McGee would win the battle for second followed by Brandon Rothzen, Waterman and Glass. Thirteen points separates the top two in the IMCA Modified point race. Jeff Waterman leads the battle with 366 pionts followed by Tyler Glass 353 and Brandon Rothzen with 343.
