DAVENPORT, Ia. (June 2, 2017) – Great racing weather finally graced the Davenport Speedway on a Friday night. The racers responded by putting on a terrific show for the fans.

Matt Ryan made some quick maneuvers in lapped traffic to capture the Petersen Plumbing and Heating IMCA Late Model feature. Matt had taken the lead from Andy Nezworski after a lap six restart. Brunson Behning slowly reeled in the leader and the lead duo were side by side on lap twenty-four with two slower cars in front of them. Ryan squeezed between the infield tires and Jay Chenoweth to retain the lead and score his first points win of the season at Davenport.

Behning would finish second with Nezworski holding on to third. Chuck Hanna and Gary Webb were fourth and fifth respectively.

The Eriksen Chevrolet IMCA Modifieds provided another thrilling main event. Jordan Hicks jumped out to the early race lead and led the first three laps. On a lap four restart, Doug Crampton showed some muscle and powered his way to the front. Late in the race, Bryce Garnhart got inside of Crampton and took away the lead.

On lap nineteen of twenty, Rob Toland, who had gone to the tail of the field after a lap three caution, pulled alongside of Garnhart and then passed him for the lead and the win. The victory was Toland’s first modified checkers of the season at Davenport.

Garnhart took second, with Crampton finishing third. Eric Barnes and Tony VonDresky completed the top five.

Brandon Setser collected his feature win at Davenport in Koehler Electric Street Stock action. Brandon came from a second row starting spot to lead all fifteen laps and take home a trophy. The victory was not an easy one as Rob Henry and Jeff Struck Jr. kept the pressure on Setser, but their advances were repelled each time.

Struck would take the runner-up spot, with Rob Henry, Rob Nylin and Dwayne Smith Jr. all scoring top five finishes.

Tony Olson continued on his streak in the Hawkeye Auto IMCA SportMod class. Olson started ninth and took the lead after a lap two restart. Tony led the rest of the way to the checkered flag, his fourth win in four races. Jake Morris was able to stay close to Olson, but would have to settle for second. First lap leader, Rick Wages finished third. On his first visit to the speedway this year, Henry Carson took fourth, ahead of Brandon Jewell.

The Midwest Jalopies were our guest class for the evening. Terry Mattly topped the vintage racing coupes, taking the win over Austin Honts and Tom Honts. The Midwest Jalopies will again visit the Davenport Speedway on July 14th.

The SportMod Challenge returns to the Davenport Speedway next Friday, June 9th. A $2,000 prize awaits the winner of the SportMod feature. Weekly point races will be held in all other classes. More information can be found on the track’s website “davenportspeedway.com”.
