Ryan, VonDresky, and Olson, double-up at Davenport

DAVENPORT, Ia. (May 15, 2015) – With a break from Mother Nature, the Davenport Speedway was able to complete the full racing program Friday night. A night that would see three drivers score their second win of the season.
Davenport’s Matt Ryan made it two for two in the Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Models. Joe Zrostlik started on the pole and led the first fourteen laps of the feature. Ryan flew by on lap fifteen and led the rest of the way to the checkers. Brunson Behning started fifth and got close to Ryan a couple of times, but would have to settle for second. Todd Malmstrom came from deep in the field to finish third. Zrostlik and Sam Halstead closed out the top five.
Ryan, Andy Nezworski, and Jay Chenoweth were late model heat winners.
Another full field of Milan Heating & Air IMCA Modifieds were on hand Friday, and the result was the same. Tony VonDresky collected his second straight feature win.
Chris Lawrence got to the front early in the race, but on a lap four restart would give up the spot to Doug Crampton. Seconds later, Crampton’s car suddenly slowed. A couple of restarts later, Lawrence was back in the lead. VonDresky, who had to qualify through a semi and started sixteenth, took the lead on lap eleven and never looked back.
Chris Lawrence would hold on for second with Bruce Hanford taking third. Kelly Meyer and Greg Durbin were fourth and fifth respectively. Lawrence, Kyle Montgomery, and Bob Dominacki won the mod heats. Mitch Morris and Ray Cox Jr. won the semis.
Keith Blum went flag to flag in the Koehler Electric Street Stock feature, for his first win of the year. Perry Gellerstedt started seventh and finished second. Kevin Dickey took third, ahead of Cord Williams and Rob Henry.
Blum, Randy Lamar, and Bryan Ritter each won a street stock heat race.
Tony Olson of Cedar Rapids, also scored his second straight win at Davenport in the Hawkeye Auto IMCA SportMod feature. Olson started eleventh and would take the lead from Dalton Simonsen on a lap six restart. Despite a lap eleven caution flag, Olson had clear sailing to the checkered flag. Bryce Garnhart started tenth and finished second. Simonsen held on for third, followed by Phil Anderson and Henry Carson.
Zach Dahl paid a visit to victory lane in the Roto-Rooter 4-Stock division. Dahl would take the lead from Josh Riley on lap ten, and lead the final three laps to the checkers. Riley finished in the runner-up spot. The Benischek brothers were next with Luke in third and Jake in fourth. Brandon Setser rounded out the top five.
Next Friday, May 22nd, the Davenport Speedway hosts the IMCA Mod Madness 50. A $2,000 top prize awaits the winner of the 50-lap main event. Our other four weekly classes will be competing for track points.
