BURLINGTON, IA (June 9, 2012) – Louisa Communications night at 34 Raceway Saturday, June 9 saw two racers get long awaited wins on a beautiful evening for racing. John Schulz, West Burlington, hasnt seen a sprint car  feature win since he last won a Sprint Invaders race in 2008. James Roose, Grandview, has been racing 4 cylinders for seven years. Saturday night, Roose ended that streak getting his first ever feature win. Lonnie Bailey , Quincy, Il., would take the checkered flag in the IMCA Late Model feature,  his second this season, while Brandon Rothzen, Raritan, Il.,  (modifieds), Jeff Mueller, New London (stock cars) and Matt Gavin, Kirkwood, Il. all would get repeat wins as well  for the 2012 season. 34 Raceway staff,  fans and drivers took time to remember and honor modified racer Tim Sands, Conesville, Ia,,  with a moment of silence as well as collecting donations for the Sands family. Sands  died  as a result of a tragic racing accident at CJ Speedway in Columbus Junction Friday night.

Coming up this week, Saturday, June 16 will be $5 Fan Appreciation Night. Race fans are invited to bring their family and friends to 34 Raceway when admission to the grandstands is just $5.00 (with the exception of kids 10 and under who as usual are admitted free). Mikes Auto Parts night will see action with the W.T. Gabeline and Sons Trucking 305 Sprints, Coors Silver Bullet IMCA Modifieds, Mikes Auto Parts IMCA Stock Cars, Weikert Iron and Metal Sport Mods, Pepsi Hobby Stocks and the I-Wireless/Louisa Communications 4 Cylinders. Mikes Auto Parts has also added additional money to the stock car class with the winner taking home $525 this week.

Feature racing action started off this week with the I-Wireless/Louisa Communications 4 Cylinders where Grandviews James Roose would get his first ever feature win in  his seven years of racing. Roose took the lead from his second row start on the first lap of the twelve lap feature and would take the checkered by several car lengths ahead of Nick Wilkerson.

A nice field of seventeen Coors Silver Bullet IMCA Modifieds would take to the track next with Dustan Fenton and Bill Roberts on the front row. Roberts would take the early lead and lead the field for the next eight laps before the first and only caution flag would come out. On the restart Dennis LaVeine would take over the lead pulling away from the field. With two laps to go in the twenty lap feature, Brandon Rothzen had closed the gap LaVeine had created  pulling along side of leader in turn one then making the pass on the back stretch for the lead going on to take the win.

Chris Webb lead the fifteen car Mikes Auto Parts IMCA Stock Car feature for the first twelve laps of  their twenty lap feature with a battle for second raging behind him. The battle for the second positions was back and fourth between Derek St. Clair, Abe Huls and Jeff Mueller the first twelve laps before Mueller was finally able to hold on to the second spot, setting his sights on Webb. With seven laps to go, Mueller would get by Webb on the back stretch and went on to take the checkered flag for the second time this year. Webb would follow in second and St. Clair would take third.

The last time John Schulz, West Burlington, won a sprint car feature was in a Sprint Invaders race in 2008. Schulz would end that dry spell  this week taking the checkered flag in the eighteen car W.T. Gabeline and Sons Trucking 305 Sprint feature. Andy Huston took the lead on lap two from Dave Getchell and lead the field for the next fourteen laps of the twenty lap race before Schulz went to the inside in turn four for the lead and went on to get the win. Daniel Berguist would follow Schulz across the finish line to take second and Donnie Stewart would move up from his sixth row start to take third.

The fifteen lap Pepsi Hobby Stock feature saw Matt Gavin, Kirkwood, Il. get  his third win this year. Dane Fenton would take the early lead of the race  leading the field for the first five laps before Jake Wenig would take the lead away on lap six. But Wenigs lead was short when Gavin would take it away from him on the next lap and would pull away from the field. With Gavin out in front a battle for second was going on between Wenig, Victor Hastings and Fenton with Wenig following Gavin across the finish line to finish second.

Lonnie Bailey, Quincy, Il. would take the lead in the IMCA Late Model feature from Tom Bowling on lap eight and would pull away from field going on to take the checkered flag for the second time this year at 34 Raceway.  With Bailin holding a comfortable lead   a battle for second was going on behind him between Colby Springsteen and Nate Beuseling. Springteen had to work to stay ahead Beuseling who would hang with him throughout the twentyfive lap feature but was able to hold him off to finish in the second spot.
