DAVENPORT, Ia. (June 5, 2015) – One hundred and fifteen cars and over two hundred and fifty laps of green flag racing made for a busy Friday night at the Davenport Speedway.

Justin Kay made it back-to-back wins in the Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Model division. Justin was doing double-duty, racing in both the late model and modified classes.

Joe Ross took the early lead of the feature after starting on the outside pole position. He led the first three laps before yielding to Chuck Hanna. Hanna led laps four through twelve.

Kay took the lead on lap thirteen and never looked back. Nate Bueseling started seventh and finished second. Hanna finished third, followed by Joe Zrostlik and Mike Garland.

Hanna, Mike Zemo Jr., and Matt Ryan were late model heat winners.

Chris Zogg finally got his 2015 season at Davenport turned around with a victory in the Milan Heating & Air IMCA Modified feature. Zogg led all twenty laps en route to the win. Justin Kay would place second in his first modified appearance at Davenport. Milo Veloz Jr. battled his way to third place, while Darin Duffy and Bruce Hanford rounded out the top five.

Zogg, Duffy, Veloz, and Joe Beal won the modified heats. Semi wins went to Kelly Meyer and Brandon Durbin.

The Koehler Electric Street Stocks doubled their pleasure with a make-up feature in addition to this week’s full program. The make-up feature belonged to Jeremy Gustaf. Gustaf led flag to flag for the win. Keith Blum finished second. Randy Lamar, Nick Claussen, and Korey Peterson finished third through fifth respectively.

In tonight’s feature, Jeremy Gustaf was again in the lead until he slipped off the high side of the track, just past midway. Jesse Owen took advantage of Gustaf’s miscue and grabbed the lead. Owen would go on to win the caution-shortened race. Nick Claussen came home second, followed by Gustaf, Cary Brown, and Korey Peterson.

Double-duty was also the theme for the Hawkeye Auto IMCA SportMods. Dustin Crear scored the win in the make-up feature. Crear got the lead from Jake Morris on lap six and led the rest of the way to the checkers. Tony Olson saw his winning streak end with a second place finish. Bryce Garnhart took third over Jarrett Franzen and Henry Carson.

In the late night feature, Aaron Hitt held the early lead until he tangled with a lapped car. Jarrett Franzen quickly took over the lead and went on to his first victory at Davenport this season. Dustin Crear continued his good night, finishing second. Jake Morris finished third, just ahead of Dalton Simonson and Bryce Garnhart.

The Roto-Rooter 4-Stocks saw their first feature winner of the season that wasn’t named Dahl. Josh Riley held the early race lead until his car faltered. Luke Benischek scooped up the lead and took his first win of the season. Brandon Dahl worked his way to a second place finish with Brandon Setser third. Jake Benischek and Zach Dahl  completed the first five.

Friday was also the first Kid’s Night of the 2015 season at Davenport. Bike races for the kids were held after the racing program concluded.

The racing action at the Davenport Speedway continues next Friday, June 12th, with the SportMod Challenge. A $2000 top prize awaits the winner of the A-Main in the IMCA SportMod class. All other classes will compete in weekly points action.

Due to increased car counts and our desire to be considerate to our neighbors, racing at the Davenport Speedway will start at 6:45 p.m., for the remainder of the 2015 season.
