Stock Cars approach milestone, increased purse offered for 300th feature at Independence

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (June 24, 2013) –  The Stock Car division is approaching a milestone at Independence Motor Speedway. All-time, the facility has held 298 weekly racing events for the division, with race night number 300 scheduled for early July.

To observe the milestone, the 300th feature for the Stock Cars will pay $1,000 to win on Saturday, July 6.

In the event inclement weather forces the cancellation of either of the next two weekly programs, the date of the 300th feature will be adjusted. Updates will be available on the track web site, www.independencemotorspeedway.com.

The Stock Cars are in their 21st year of weekly competition in Independence, having joined the program on April 24, 1993. The division has been IMCA sanctioned since the start of the 1994 season.

Dan Trimble is the all-time leader in Stock Car wins at the speedway with 69 trips to victory lane. Brian Irvine ranks second with 31 wins and two-time defending track champion Sean Johnson has 26. Jarod Weepie and Justin Temeyer are tied for third with 18 wins apiece.

The 300th event is a weekly racing program and all new drivers must be registered with the track and have an IMCA license to compete. The draw/redraw qualifying format will be used for the Stock Cars that evening. All applicable IMCA points, including track points, will be awarded.

Weekly grandstand admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $7 for students ages 12-17. Kids 11 and under are admitted free if accompanying a paid adult. Pit passes are $25. Gates open at 4 p.m., with hot laps at 6 and racing to follow.

IMCA sanctioned Late Models, Modifieds, Northern SportMods, Hobby Stocks and Sport Compacts are also part of the weekly program.
