WHEATLAND, MO (May 5th, 2015) – After a furious two weekend stretch during the beginning of April, the Lucas Oil MLRA is ready to welcome the month of May with a trio of shows slated to begin Thursday evening. Last season two of the most memorable features of the entire year were contested at Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, Iowa and Davenport Speedway in Davenport, Iowa. Those two tracks make up the first two legs of the swing. Saturday, action moves just south of the Iowa border to Scotland County Speedway in Memphis, Missouri.

Last season marked the first visit by the series to both Iowa tracks. There is a bit of history with the Lucas Oil MLRA at Scotland County Speedway, however the last race was contested there in 2006.

Ryan Gustin has won two of the first four races this season and currently sits at the top of the standings. Jeremy Payne and Terry Phillips are both within 30 markers of Gustin and sit second and third respectively. Jason Utter has started the year well and holds down fourth, while Tad Pospisil rounds out the top five.

Utter is attempting the series schedule in it’s entirety for the first time in his 13 year Late Model career. He has one Lucas Oil MLRA victory to his credit in a 2011 thriller at I-80 Speedway. Over the off-season he made some changes to his program. Most notably was his move to Black Diamond Chassis, the first ever chassis switch of his career.

“Our team had wanted to see what else was out there for quite a while,” said Utter, Tuesday morning from his Columbus Junction, Iowa shop. “I stewed on it for over a year. I was lucky enough to win this past year’s Tornado Tuesday at West Liberty Raceway. When we made it back to the trailer Ronnie Stuckey was the second one over to congratulate me. We talked for a while that night, and then had a chance encounter at PRI after the show was over one evening. I asked him if he would build us a car and the rest is history.”

Utter knows the importance of having someone to talk to about car specifics and feels that has made the difference in performance early on this season.

“We were always just so hit and miss in previous seasons. I just knew as much as Ronnie talked with us when we weren’t in his cars, that once we got one it would be a great fit!”

Utter is centrally located between both Lee County and Davenport Speedway. He has experience at both tracks and spoke highly of each. Scotland County Speedway will be new for him and a majority of the field Saturday evening. Utter receives support for his operation from Cox Design, Louisa Gold Farms and Wyffles Hybrids.
