WINSTON, MO (August 2, 2014) – Great fun was had by all kids in attendance at “Kids Night at the Races” as over 150 backpacks filled to the top were given away as back to school prizes when the kids walked through the gates.  Also, DX Racing donated four bicycles that were given away to four lucky kids in a drawing during Intermission activities.  Thanks to all who donated and were in attendance for making this a special night at I-35 Speedway.

First to take to the three-eighths mile of dirt were the Midwest Outlaw Vintage Racers with the familiar face of Mathew Lance #5 finding victory lane for the second time in 2014.  Lance would surge to the lead with Andy Wiles #53 making a charge late to challenge for the top spot only to run out of laps to place second.  Chris Heitman #39 would bring home his hotrod in third place with Dennis Fair #7x, recovering from an early race spin, finishing fourth.  BJ Page #64 would round out the nights top five.  Heat race winners were Andy Wiles #53 and Bobby Ruff #51.

Next on the track were the USRA Hobby Stocks where they would see an increased number of entries as young driver Conner Masoner #47x would pick up his first victory at I-35 Speedway, also claiming the top spot in the heat race.  Masoner was challenged every inch of the way by #15 Corey Myers who would hold off the late race charge by Mich Ross #34 to place second, leaving Ross third.  Tyler Clark #7t and Richard Sorensen #23 would finish fourth and fifth respectively.

In a growing E-Mod class the familiar face of John Brown #36j would again wheel his way to Victory Lane.  Early race leader and heat race winner Kyle Henning #1 would challenge Brown lap for lap only to slip to second in the latter stages.  Point leader Kit Bailey #77 continues to impress with a consistent and solid third place finish.  Nicholas Carpenter #33, improving each week, would pilot his fast race car to a fourth place finish.  Heat race winner LeRoy Cameron #6a would slip early but recover for a fifth place finish.

Grand Nationals would see great racing action up front as Houston Johnson #97 would jolt to the lead and never look back, leading every lap on his way to the night’s top spot.  Younger brother Houston could not look back as older brother Austin Johnson #98 would race his way to a close second.  Buz Kaster #54 would race side by side with Mike Taylor Jr #11t, as Kaster would claim third leaving Taylor in fourth.  Early front contender Jason Estes #71e would experience mechanical issues to finish fifth.  Heat race winner was Houston Johnson.

Non-Wing Sprint Cars would electrify the crowd as Mitchell Moore #51 would win both heat race and feature event on this special night.  Chris Parkinson #65 was the hard charger racing through the field to finish second.  Josh Stephens #09 would find the high line to his liking placing third, with heat race winner #88 of Chad Tye fourth.  Rounding out the top five would see a very fast Danny Thoman #27 hold off challengers to the checkers.

With the big money on the line the USRA B-Mod National Point leader Chad Clancy #21c would again visit McCarthy Auto-Group Victory Lane at I-35 Speedway.  Clancy was challeneged early and often by Jake Richards #7j but all Richards could do was settle for second.  Jim Cameron #96c would use the high line to challenge the leaders and also hold off the #17t of Shadren Turner, Cameron would finish third leaving Turner in fourth.  Jason Billups #33j continues to rack up top five finishes, as he would see the checkers in fifth.  Heat race winners included Chad Clancy, Jake Richards, and Lynn Starry #54.  B-Feature winner was Tony Manley #3x.

In their true fashion and form the USRA Stock Cars were two and three abreast the entire feature.  Thomas Roberts #65x with a gallant inside move would take over the lead early and pilot his black Monte Carlo to victory lane.  Roberts was challenged every step of the way by a very fast Dean Wray #77 and Brett Heeter #05, as they would finish second and third by mere inches.  Jeff Dixon #88 would search the track for way around the leaders to no avail as he would come home in fourth place.  Jake Cameron #86c would use his ford horsepower to place a solid fifth.  Heat race winners were Dean Wray and Jake Cameron.

USRA Modifieds were the last to take to the near perfect racing surface as Zach Sanders #69 would claim feature win number five of the 2014 racing season, adding to an already impressive point lead.  Doing double duty Chad Clancy #75c would race his modified, filling in for Bud Wilson, to a very impressive second place finish.  Jim Hopkins #71 was the mover and shaker of the race bringing his race car to the third position.  One time leader Shane Lawson #17$ would recover from a slip in turn four and race his way back to finish fourth.  DX Racing #2h of John Hanson would bring home an impressive fifth place showing.  Heat race winners were Zach Sanders and Shane Lawson.

I-35 Speedway would again like to thank our great fans for filling the bleachers and backpacks on Walker Excavating and Kid’s Night at the Races.  We would like to invite everyone back next week for more great racing action on AAA Transmission and CARB Night at the Races.  Show-Me Vintage Racers will also be in attendance as CARB members will get free admission to the grand stands.  We would also like to thank Heartland Auto Racing Show and Mike and Kyle Johnson for the added winner’s purse in the USRA B-Mod feature.  Hope to see everyone next week for more “Dirt Trackin at its Best”.

See you there!
