WINSTON, MO (Aug 4, 2012) – As the rains began to fall at I-35 Speedway just as gates were opening it was questionable whether or not Clay County Engine Rebuilders night at I-35 was even going to happen. After deliberation with track workers I-35 Speedway management said IT’s ON! Fans in attendance we’re treated to one heck of a show and five drivers claimed victories when all was said and done.

Kicking off the night were the IMCA Stock Cars. Nic Hanes (Trenton, MO), who has already tasted sweet victory this season in the IMCA Sport Mod class, is seven races into his IMCA Stock Car season and in six races before tonight has three top five finishes to his credit, after tonight add a victory. It wasn’t easy for Hanes as he had to try and find a line to get by the defending track champion Gene Stigall (Winston, MO), and it wasn’t until the last corner on the last lap that Hanes found the top side and beat Stigall to the line by half a car length. Hanes had been running the bottom and Stigall the top. Hanes got alongside Stigall and that made Stigall alter his line giving Hanes just what he wanted, the high side. Stigall would hold on for second, Greg Keuhn (Trenton, MO) was third, Jon Boller III (St. Joseph, MO) was fourth and points leader Jon Boller Jr. (St. Joseph, MO) finished fifth. Hanes also took home hard charger award honors.

Travis Walker picked up his second win in three weeks tonight in the Grand National division. Walker (Cameron, MO) worked past race leader Austin Johnson as they went three wide with Bud Wilson numerous times without contact. Wilson (Trenton, MO) finished second, Austin Johnson (Kansas City, MO) finished third, Chad Clancy (Smithville, MO) returned to the car he took to track championships and finished fourth and Mike Jones (Maysville, MO) was fifth. Wilson took home another hard charger award.

Randy Ainsworth (Excelsior Springs, MO) used a late restart to reel in race leader Wes Bestgen (Osborn, MO) and captured his second win of the season in the IMCA Sport Mods. Each time Bestgen had a big lead a caution would wave, that gave Ainsworth the opportunities to see where he needed to change his driving style to thwart Bestgens first win. On a late restart Ainsworth got by Bestgen and they ran one and two for several laps until Mike Tanner (Kansas City, MO) got by Bestgen for second. The win extended Ainsworths lead over Tanner from 3 to 4 in the chase for the Championship. Bestgen would finish third, Jason Billups (Holt, MO) continued his strong run finishing fourth and Doug Keller (St. Joseph, MO) finished fifth. Ainsworth also took home the hard charger award.

Eric Stanton took home win number ten on the season at I-35 Speedway. Stanton (Hartford, IA) got by race leader Lee Farmer late in the race and battled Farmer for a few laps before clearing Farmer and taking home the win. Farmer (Bethany, MO) had a good battle with a few cars but finished second, Billie Hoover (Stewartsville, MO) rebounded to finish third, Jeremy Turner (Pattonsburg, MO) finished fourth and Alexis Whitney (Trenton, MO) finished fifth. Stanton took home another hard charger award.

“Mr. Excitement” Jim Cameron gave his fans plenty to be excited about as he won his fourth IMCA Modified feature of 2012. Cameron battled with Johnny McGinnis before eventually pulling away for the win. Buz Kaster (Kansas City, KS) rallied after an early spin and chased down Cameron at the end but ran out of laps and finished second, McGinnis (Hardin, MO) finished third, Jason Estes (Winston, MO) finished fourth and Jeff Marriott (Platte City, MO) finished fifth. Kaster took home his second hard charger of the season.

Next week is kids night at I-35 Speedway. The festivities will include stinky foot races, drawings for six bikes donated by some drivers and backpacks full of school supplies. Also starting August 17th the Trackside Tavern and Suite will be open every Friday and Saturday evening for dinner.
