World of Outlaws Late Models, Hawkeye Dirt Tour Modifieds July 24 in Independence

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (July 21, 2014) – The World of Outlaws Late Model Series and XSAN Hawkeye Dirt Tour for IMCA Modifieds share top billing this Thursday, July 24 at Independence Motor Speedway.

The Late Model tour will be making a stop in Independence for the fourth consecutive year and pays $10,000 to the winner.

Josh Richards was the inaugural winner in August 2011. Darrell Lanigan won in the two most recent visits to the Buchanan County Fairgrounds.

Lanigan, a nine-time winner so far this season, enters the event in Independence as the series point leader. Rick Eckert, Tim McCreadie, Morgan Bagley and Chub Frank sit second through fifth.

The 30-lap IMCA Xtreme Motor Sports Modified feature pays $1,000 to win, a minimum of $150 to start and is a qualifying event for the 2015 Fast Shafts All-Star Invitational ballot.

Five different drivers, including point leader Mike Van Genderen of Newton, Tim Ward of Gilbert, Ariz., Andrew Schroeder of Keswick, Jimmy Gustin of Marshalltown and most recently Chris Abelson of Sioux City have prevailed in the five Dirt Tour events held so far this season.

IMCA Speedway Motors Weekly Racing National, Belleville Motorsports North Central Region, Allstar Performance State and special series points will be awarded at Independence.

The first-ever Hawkeye Dirt Tour event was held at Independence on May 19, 2010. Josh Foster of Newton was the winner that evening; Darin Duffy of Urbana won the series race there last Aug. 5.

Grandstand admission is $30 and free for kids 10 and under when accompanying a paid adult. Pit passes are $35; Modified drivers receive a free pit pass along with their $50 registra¬tion fee.

Both the pit gates and the grandstand open at 4 p.m. Hot laps are scheduled for 6:45 p.m. with qualifying to follow.
