DAVENPORT, Ia. (August 14, 2015) – 4-Stocks took center stage Friday night at the Davenport Speedway, for the running of the 4-Stock Nationals. When the final checkered flag flew, the spotlight was on Long Grove, Iowa’s Joe Zrostlik.

The 50-lap A-main started with Steve Miedke taking the early lead for the first three laps. Pole-sitter Andy Loy grabbed the top spot for two laps, before yielding to Josh Riley. Riley would have the field in tow for the next twenty laps.

Zrostlik started the feature at mid-pack, after qualifying through one of the semi-features. He quickly moved up to second by lap ten. After following Riley for fifteen laps, Zrostlik used a lapped car as a pick, to take the lead. Despite three caution flags during the second half of the race, Zrostlik would lead the rest of the way to the checkers and a $2,000 pay day.

Gage Neal moved into second after the final restart and would finish in that position. Wisconsin’s Jay Orr made the long trek to Davenport pay off with a third place finish. Brandon Setser ran top five the entire race and finished fourth. Dustin Forbes completed the top five.

Racers from five states took part in the event.

It took almost three months, but someone finally beat Justin Kay in Petersen Plumbing &Heating IMCA Late Model action. Brunson Behning grabbed the lead from Mike Zemo Jr., after a lap eleven restart and never looked back. The win was Behning’s first late model win at Davenport this year.

Kay would get as close as second, then swapped the position with Matt Ryan a couple times, before finishing in the runner-up position. Ryan would take third, followed by Nate Bueseling and Andy Nezworski.

Late model heat race wins went to Kay, Joe Zrostlik, and Thad Wilson.

Another quality field of Milan Heating & Air IMCA Modifieds were on hand Friday. The twenty lap feature saw an unusually high number of caution flags. The ensuing restarts would have a big impact on the race.

Jarrod Struss led the first seven laps of the main. A lap eight restart saw Chris Zogg go to the front. A few laps later, Mitch Morris would get by Zogg, but another caution flag would erase the pass for the lead. Zogg would then hold on to the lead and claim his second victory of the season at Davenport. Morris finished second, with Bruce Hanford third. Joe Beal and Brian Bushong completed the top five.

Donnie Louck made it two wins in a row in the Koehler Electric Street Stock class. Louck led all fifteen laps, en route to the victory. Jake Gustaf recovered from an early race incident to finish second. Jesse Owen took third, ahead of Perry Gellerstedt and Cord Williams.

Tony Olson collected win number five in Hawkeye Auto IMCA SportMod action. Olson drove from sixth starting position to the lead on lap one and left the field in his dust. Bryce Garnhart had solid second place finish with Jake Morris in third. Jared Waterman and Rob Nylin finished fourth and fifth respectively.

Friday’s racing program included a visit from the Midwest Jalopies. Terry Mattly took the lead on lap two of the

feature and rocketed away to the win in his ’37 Ford. Austin Honts would finish second, followed by Kris Vohringer, Bob Mingst, and Jeff Blunt, in that order.

Next Friday, August 21st, is the final Kid’s Night of the 2015 season at the Davenport Speedway. Children 12 & under get free grandstand admission when accompanied by a paid adult. Bike races for the kids will be held after the racing program has concluded.
