INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (August 19, 2013) – The weekly racing season will come to a close at Independence Motor Speedway with the Budweiser Season Championships this Saturday, August 24.

Track champions will be determined on the final night of points racing, which will include feature events lined up straight-up based on season point totals. Heat races will not be held in any of the six weekly divisions.

Weather permitting, out of car introductions will be conducted on the front stretch, with the top four drivers in points in the IMCA Late Models, Performance Bodies IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars, Karl Chevrolet IMCA Northern SportMods and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks offered the chance to win increased prize money. Those drivers will double their money if they can win the feature from the tail of their respective starting fields.

Should car counts warrant B features, transfer positions into the A features will be awarded. Nostalgia cars will also be a part of the championship night program.

Tyler Bruening carries a 28 point lead over Darren Ackerman in the Late Model standings. Bruening will simply need to take the green flag in that feature to lock up his third track title in four seasons.

Like Bruening, Hobby Stock driver Benji Irvine can earn the track championship by taking the green flag in that division’s feature. Irvine leads Chris Luloff by 36 points entering championship night.

First-year Modified driver Tyler Droste is seeking his first career track championship in that division. He leads Ronn Lauritzen in the standings by 17 points and can guarantee his first track title Saturday with a finish of 17th or better.

Three drivers remain alive to win the championship in the Stock Car division. Points leader Sean Johnson, in search of his third straight title, leads Jarod Weepie by 11 points and John Emerson by 17.

The closest battle is in the Northern SportMod division where Brennen Chipp and Alex Zwanziger are separated by three points entering championship night. Chipp holds the advantage, while Lucas Lundry is 16 points back in third and Jim Buhlman is fourth, 21 points behind Chipp.

Merv Chandler has already locked up his second straight track title in the Mach-1 IMCA Sport Compact division.

As part of its event sponsorship, Budweiser will be offering hat and can koozie giveaways during Saturday’s program.

Grandstand admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $7 for students ages 12-17. Kids 11 and under will be admitted free if accompanying a paid adult. Pit passes are $25.

Gates open at 4 p.m., with hot laps at 6 and the first championship event to follow.

The final race of 2013 in Independence will be Friday, September 20, when the Deery Brothers Summer Series for IMCA Late Models makes its second appearance of the season. Stock Cars will also compete that evening for a $2,000 winner’s share. Details of that event will be made available in the coming weeks.
