DAVENPORT, Ia. (August 20, 2013) – Five 2013 track championships will be determined this Friday, August 23rd, at the Davenport Speedway. Last Friday’s racing action made several of the point battles a little tighter going into the final night of point racing.

The closest point battle is in the EMS IMCA Modified division. For the first time all season, Tony VonDresky of McCausland, holds the lead. However, Craig Crawford of Silvis, is only a mere four points back. In fact, there are five drivers within 19 points of the leader, going into the final race.

In case of a tie in the point standings, the position will go to the driver with the most wins. Currently, Mitch Morris leads the modifieds in wins with four. Craig Crawford, Doug Crampton, and Bob Dominacki, have two wins each.

One class where there is little doubt who the champion will be is the Petersen Plumbing & Heating IMCA Late Models. Justin Kay of Wheatland, has a sizeable lead on the rest of the field and needs only to start his heat and feature to claim the title. The log jam in the late model point standings is for the second position. Andy Nezworski is trying to hold off Nate Bueseling, Mike Zemo Jr., and Todd Malmstrom.

If Jeremy Marquette can finish 13th or better in the Koehler Electric Street Stock feature, he will become a 4-time track champion. The Davenport racer has five feature wins on the season, but has not won since June. Perry Gellerstedt (2nd in points) and Cary Brown (3rd), would need everything to go their way, to have a shot at the title.

The inaugural season for the Hawkeye Auto IMCA SportMods at the Davenport Speedway has been good to Bryce Garnhart of Shannon, Ill. Garnhart scored two feature wins early this season, and has used consistent finishes week after week to sit atop the point standings. Bryce needs only to start his heat and feature to secure the championship. Brandon Jewell holds a slim lead over Ricky Kay and Doug Burkhead in the battle for second.

Aaron Hitt’s victory in the Roto-Rooter 4-Stock division last Friday, has put him back on top of the point standings. Hitt leads Brandon Dahl by only five points. Going into the final race, there is a three-way tie for third place. Brandon Setser, Allen Morris, and Zach Dahl each have 307 points.

To add a little flavor to Season Championship Night, the point leader in each class will have the option of taking the “Back Row Challenge” for extra money, if they win.

The top ten in each class will be lined-up for their feature by points, provided they start their heat race. All the racing action will be on the quarter-mile dirt oval.

The Davenport Speedway is located at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds, on West Locust Street in Davenport, Iowa. Pit gates open at 4:30pm, the grandstand at 5:00pm, with hotlaps at 6:30 and racing at 7:00pm.
