BURLINGTON, IA  (April 21, 2012) – Rain to the west again threatened racing action throughout the afternoon at 34 Raceway Saturday night and the night was nearly completed before it finally hit . A full program plus make up features were nearing completion when rain started to fall before the final feature of the night,  the IMCA Stock Cars.  Rain stopped the action following the completion of heat races on April 14 so fans were treated to double  features for modifieds, stock cars and hobby stocks this week at the Occupy Hunger 305 Sprint Shootout.

Make up features began the night with Tyler Cale, Donnellson,  collecting $1000 for his Coors Silver Bullet IMCA Modified make up feature win. Jake Wenig, Burlington,  would take the checkered flag in the Pepsi Outlaw Hobby Stock make up feature and Matt Greiner, Washington, picked up his first ever 34 Raceway Mikes Auto Parts IMCA Stock Car win in a thriller.

Following the April 14 make up features the April 21 program got underway with heat races for the W.T. Gabeline and Sons Trucking 305 Sprint Shootout, IMCA modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars, Hobby Stocks and 4 Cylinders.  34 Raceway fans came out to support Occupy Hunger with canned food items and donations to benefit the local food pantries.

Coming up this week, April 28 at 34 Raceway will be the first points race of the season for IMCA Late Models, W.T. Gabeline and Sons Trucking 305 Sprints, Coors Silver Bullet IMCA Modifieds, Mikes Auto Parts IMCA Stock Cars , Pepsi Outlaw Hobby Stocks and the I-Wireless/Louisa Communications 4 Cylinders. Fans will see double features for the IMCA Stock Cars due to their feature being rained out on April 21.

Jake Wenig, Burlington, and his dad Dan Wenig, West Burlington both picked up hobby stock feature wins Saturday night. Jake would take the lead with two laps to go when leader Victory Hastings would lose control in turn two to bring out the caution setting up a green, white, checkered finish with Wenig getting the win.  In the second hobby stock feature of the night Dan Wenig would take the lead on the first lap and went on to take the win in the fifteen lapper.

In IMCA modified action Tyler Cale, Donnellson would take the lead from AJ Fike on lap fourteen of the 25 Lap $1000 to win make up feature as he pulled away from Scott Hogan and Brandon Rothzen  for the win.  The second modified feature of the night went to Rich Smith of Davenport. The eighteen car modified field struggled with several cautions plaguing the 20 lap feature. The race was called on a time limit after Kyle Hill, New London, ended up on his top on the front stretch, giving Smith the win.

Matt Greiner, Washington, won his first IMCA Stock Care feature at 34 Raceway in a stock car thriller. Eight lead changes kept the fans on the edge of their seats with Greiner, John Oliver, Jr., and Ryan Cook putting on a battle with back and fourth, side by side racing for twenty laps. Hats off to these guys for a thrilling race to watch and congrats to Greiner for pulling out the win.  With such a fun race to watch the first time, anticipation was high for the second stock car feature of the nigh, but once again Mother Nature would have the last word as rain started to fall as the modified feature was ending setting up a double stock car feature for this week.

2011 I-Wireless/Louisa Communications 34 Raceway track champion, Nick Wilkerson, Morning Sun, would pick up where he left off winning the 4 cylinder twelve lap feature. Wilkerson took the lead  from his second row start on lap one and never looked back.

The main event of the night was the W.T. Gabeline and Sons Trucking 305 Sprint Shoot out. Fourteen cars took to the track with $1000 to win on the line. Brandyn Martin would take the early lead but a caution on lap ten would allow Daniel Bergquist the opportunity to make a charge past Martin for the lead. Bergquist would have to work to hold of Jayson Ditsworth for the next fourteen laps. Ditsworth  tried to pass Bergquist on lap nineteen of the twenty five lap race but would get loose coming out of turn two and Bergquist would pull away for some breathing room to take the checkered flag in his first career sprint win.
