Sweet Redemption For Cody Agler

| April 21, 2012

KANSAS CITY, KS (April 20, 2012) – Have you ever heard the expression one minute your up and the next minute your down? That was Cody Agler last week in the Modified main event. He had the field covered until an engine let go ending his night, while he was in the lead. A hard pill to swallow for most racers, but many racers will always say there will be other races. A week’s worth of waiting, tinkering with the new chassis and installing a new motor was just what the doctor ordered for the youngster, from Emporia.

The main event saw Joe Cobb and Nic Bidinger kick the event off from the front row. Once the green flag waved it was like the Running of the Bulls.

Bidinger would jump out into the lead first. Mark Schafman would make a run at Bidinger, but he didn’t find that little bit extra to take over the lead.

Agler would make his way from the 6th starting spot to 3rd in just a few laps. He would have to work his way by Schafman, who was also having a good run. It wouldn’t take long for Agler to dispose of Schafman and from there it was Bidinger that Agler had in his sights. It took a few laps and a lapped car to provide the extra edge that Agler would need to get out in front. From there he would hold on to the win. A sweet feeling after blowing up a motor last week.

“It feels good, for sure,” said Agler after the win, “I knew last week the way I went out in hot laps and ran in feature, I knew I had a winning car. We were out there leading in the feature and then we lost a motor, I really couldn’t be upset because we were running so good. Tonight the motor was unbelievable, the Stinnett power was so good. He (Gary Stinnett) worked his butt off to make sure I was out here tonight. I can’t thank him enough, because I wouldn’t be out here if it wasn’t for him.”

All night long, Agler looked as if he might have the car to beat. The only thing left was for him to finish off the competition.

“In the end I started getting a little nervous, tensing up and I started to miss my marks and stuff. I thought Tim was going to get me!,” said Agler, “Thank God we held it off.”

“Honestly, I knew as soon as they waved that green flag I knew I had a good car and I just took off,” said Agler, “I just kept working it and being patient and tried to keep the tires cooled off. I was moving forward and when I moved into 2nd, I knew if I could catch Nic (Bidinger) I would have a shot at it.”

Last week’s feature winner, Tim Karrick, finished off a good night with a runner-up finish, 3rd place went to Bidinger, 4th went to Aaron Marrant and finishing in the 5th position was Kerry Davis.

Only one driver was able to duplicate their feat from opening night, Gary Donaldson.

Donaldson used another strong outing to bring home the top honors one more time in the Grand National class.

He had to start in the 7th starting spot, but it wouldn’t matter as he made his way up to the front of the field.

Dennis Melvin took control of the early portion of the race, Darren Kling was in 2nd and Donaldson was moving on up! It was a great side by side battle for several laps between Donaldson and Kling. That was until Kling would break and make contact with the wall in turn 4 and in turn 1.

Melvin wasn’t going to go quitely, but for the 2nd straight week, Donaldson, was too strong down the stretch.

One of the best runs of the night happened when Mike Taylor Jr. moved from his 18th starting spot and finished in the runner-up spot, Marshall Jewitt also made it back to the track after blowing a motor last week, and finished in 3rd, 4th was Tim Shields and rounding out the top 5 in fifth was Kelby Ostrander.

It hasn’t been to long into the season by discussing failures and success rates. Mike Higley, B Mod driver, finally lost his 1st race of the 2012 season, after 4 straight wins. So Higley didn’t win, then who did?

Aaron Marrant is a racer at heart. He loves to race. No matter what type of vehicle that it might be. This year the 2011 Modified Track Champion will race in both the B Mod and A Mod divisions. Friday night at Lakeside Speedway, Marrant won his 1st B Mod race. Marrant would find success running all different types lines. High, low and in the middle were just a few spots he would test out. Marrant says that each week he uses his knowledge from the B Mod to help him in his A Mod. He found the right lines to run, as Marrant would overpower Luke Nieman for the lead.

Marrant would hold on and take the win.

Last week’s feature winner, Mike Higley, worked his way from 10th to 2nd. Unfortunately, for Higley, time would just run out on him. As Higley weaved through traffic, Marrant was off and running. By the time Higley moved into 2nd, it was almost impossible for him to erase the lead that Marrant had built up.

Terry Bruner finished in 3rd, 4th went to Ben Kates and finishing in the 5th position was the “hard charger” of the night. Chambers started 16th and made it all the way up to 5th.

The most exciting feature of the night belonged to the Factory Stock division. As it has been done since the age of mankind, the Factory Stocks provide with great racing action each and every week at Lakeside Speedway. Several cars were in pursuit of the win, but in the end there can only be one winner.

Cliff Hedges Jr. looked like he was going to get the win as the white flag waved. You can never say never, if you are in my house. Apparently, somebody also feels the way I do and it just might be Justin Seifert.

Hedges had put himself in a strong position to get the win. On the last lap, Seifert, worked his way through turn 3 and headed into 4. Seifert closed the gap as quickly as he could. It was a love tap that was passed on during that last lap. After receiving the tap, Hedges opened the door for Seifert to come by on the bottom. Seifert saw his line and took it, he rattled Hedge’s case enough to get by on the bottom and take the lead. What a better time to take the lead than on the last corner of the race.

In the 2nd place position it was Jason Ryun, who rebounded well from his week one performance, Marshall Jewett, a former track champ, locked down the 3rd place position. Scotty Moore put on a solid drive as he started in the 11th and finished 4th and rounding out your top 5 is Bobby Tavis!

The action returns next Friday night, April 27 for InThePits.Net Night At the Races.

Spectator gates open at 5 p.m., hot laps 6:15 and the first race goes green at 7:30 p.m.
