Kloos, Eilers, Sellers, Martintoni, Smith Jr,  & Lee Wins While Harrison Sweeps

HIGHLAND IL ( Aug 8, 2012) – It was Back to School Night & AgriGold Night at the races, along with Lee’s Loan & Fine Jewelry Diamond Dig, all brought to you by the Madison County Fair Association & Helvetia Sharpshooters who provided discounts on food and drink.

But it was with heavy hearts that we started the evening activities, remembering one its own, “Photo” Billy Haffer the track photographer passed away early Tuesday morning from injuries from an auto accident while returning from a race in Iowa.
Among  the activities drivers passed their helmets and officials sold sticker to benefit “Photo” Billy’s family.

Becker Jewelers Late Models
Michael Kloos in the 6K was the pole sitter for the night cap in the Becker Jewelers Late Models. Alongside of Kloos was Shannon Kuhn in the 11K.At the drop of the green flag Kloos took command of the twenty five lap feature event. Just as the field passed the flag stand on lap five, “Fast” Frankie Martin’s number 25 racer spit out the drive shaft in turn one, Martin had been running third.
On the restart it was Kloos, Kuhn, Rick “The Salty Dog” Salter in his 1S, next came defending track Champion and current track points leader Chad Zobrist in the 78 and rounding out the top five was Mike Schulte in the 27S.
By lap 13 the leaders had caught the back of the field and while battling for the second spot Salter and Zobrist ran out of room going into turn one with the 78 of Zobrist coming to rest on the top side of turn one.
The race managed to stay green for the remainder of the event with the “Trenton Tornado” Michael Kloos taking home his fifth feature win of the 2012 season. Salter was second, Schulte, Kuhn and Zobrist, who made his way back into the top five, rounded the top five.

Steve Schmitt Modifieds
Defending UMP National point champion Mike Harrison had the broom out in the Steve Schmitt Modified division, taking the heat, dash and claiming the feature event. Following Harrison to the finish was Aaron Kleine, Marty Smith Jr, Chris Smith, and Tyler Deibert. While Harrison hasn’t raced every week at the Speedway it was his sixth trip to the Casey’s General Store’s Victory Lane.

Miller Lite Pro Late Models

Nothing like watching a veteran take the division to school but that’s was exactly Bobby “The Italian Stallion” Martintoni did in the Miller Lite Pro Late Models.  It was a close race as Jordan Bauer in the 9 Star hung onto the back of Martintoni as he weaved his way through lap traffic. Every time Bauer tried to make a move around the 48 of Martintoni, “The Italian Stallion” used a lap car as a pick and slowed Bauer’s movement. The veteran Martintoni demonstrated to the field how to “work” lap traffic. Following Bauer was Rick Salter in the USA 1, Bobby Dauderman in the 18, and John Cory in the 20. It was Martintoni’s  3rd visit to the Casey’s General Stores Victory Lane this season.

 Sport Mods
Marty Smith Jr made his fifth trip into the Casey’s General Stores Victory Lane with his win this past Saturday night in the Sport Mod Division. Jeremy Thole ran second, Tyler Diebert, Rick Johnson and Brett Eilerman rounded out the top five.

Factory Stock

T J Eilers was the best of his class in the Factory Stock Division, Austin Isaak, Cale Hartnagel, Trevor Isaak, and Jake Hewitt was the top five respectfully.

Sport Compacts

Christian Lee made Saturday night an eventful one as he made his fourth visit of the season to the Casey’s General Stores Victory Lane, Bobby Funderburk, Kenny Elliott. Robbie Bindrim, and Chris Dicken was the top five.

Kidz Modz

Cole Sellers was victorious in the Kidz Modz Division, Ryan Hamilton, Kayle Gibson, Joey Gibson, Zane Ulmer, Tyler Kuhn, completed the six car field.
