Season Point Titles Decided At West Liberty Raceway

| August 27, 2017

West Liberty, Iowa (August 26, 2017) –  The season long point races at the West Liberty Raceway were decided on Saturday night with three of the racing divisions coming down to a scant 2 point margin going into Saturday nights racing program.

The Out Pace Racing Products IMCA Late Models took to the track with Chad Holladay holding a slight 2 point lead over Nick Marolf in the season long point race. Holladay immediately put the 32C on the top side of the track and proved he was definitely the car to catch on Saturday night. Holladay led the race flag to flag in scoring the 25 lap Season Championship main event. Tyler Bruening started in the tenth starting spot and charged to the front taking second after a lap 11 caution flag and went on to finish second ahead of Marolf.

The Performance Concepts IMCA Modifieds also took to the track with a two point margin separating the top two in points. Chris Zogg took the green from the pole with Dakota Hayden to his out side just two points out of first. Hayden was able to get into the lead early and go on to lead flag to flag but Zogg was able to finish in second earning him his second consecutive track Championship in the very tough Modified division by a mere 1 point.

The Weikert Iron & Metal IMCA Sportmod fifteen lap feature belonged to Cody Harris on Saturday night. Harris drove a flawless race on Saturday night in easily out racing second place finisher, Cory VanZante. Dalton Simonsen finished third and earned his second consecutive Sportmod track title.

Johnny Spaw won his second feature in a row after topping the IMCA Stock Car Main event on Friday night at the Farley Speedway. Spaw led the Kile Motorsports Stock Car feature on Saturday night despite challenges early from David Brandies and a late race challenge from Greg Gill. Spaw’s win also earned him the track Championship.

Jason KlerkDeReus not only won the Season Championship US 6 Bodyworks IMCA Sport Compact feature but the misfortune that point leader Alex Hayes suffered on the white flag lap made KlerkDeReus a three time consecutive Sport Compact Track Champion.

The next event at the West Liberty Raceway will be the season ending, Ideal Ready Mix “Liberty 100” which will be run on Friday and Saturday, September 22nd and 23rd. Qualifications will be run on Friday night and the Championship main events in all classes will be run on Saturday night.
